Part Three

I moved from Syracuse to Santa Cruz in July. It was chilly in the mornings, and I huddled up with a blanket and a mug of coffee in the breakfast nook. One of my first nights at my new place, I walked to the ocean. Though it was too cloudy to see the sky, I stayed on Seabright Beach until the sun went down and it was dusk. There were several sailboats out on the water, bobbing about and moving with the breezes. The waves rolled in, and I walked along the shore with my shoes off and my jeans rolled up to my knees. To my left was a lighthouse. The wharf to my right, the location of The Boardwalk, “the world’s best seaside amusement park.”
